Avocado face mask on woman

Fruity Beauty – Avocado Inspiration!

Thomas Fresh is bringing in avocados all the way from Columbia for the very first time in Canada. This has us thinking about the other uses of avocados. Yes, they are extremely delicious, but their incredible texture and mild flavour make them a great fruit for making D.I.Y beauty products with!

A study done in 2013 by Mint Life, estimated that the average women spends $15,000 on beauty products over the course of her lifetime. With a staggeringly high number like this, maybe it’s time to ditch the pricey hair and beauty masks for fresher and much more cost effective, home-made concoctions! Not to mention, making your own beauty products ensures that what you are using is free from synthetic chemicals and additives like BHA and BHT (these scary chemicals are commonly used as preservatives in moisturizing products). Making something yourself allows you to avoid harmful chemicals, while still reaping the same beauty benefits.

What about convenience? Many times this is the biggest road block to diving into those time consuming D.I.Y projects. Thankfully, this isn’t a big issue with the recipes we will provide below. They are extremely simple to make and require household products that most people should have kicking around their kitchen. So no excuses, give these quick hair and beauty mask recipes a try, your bank account and body will thank you!

These Three Recipes are Very Simple:

1) Plain Avocado for your Face & Hair

Take 1/2 an avocado and mash it up with a fork until it is creamy. This works great with a ripe avocado that may be out of your comfort zone for eating! Apply to face and leave on for 15 – 20 minutes. For added effect, cut out little crests of the avocado to put under your eyes, this is great for fighting puffiness.

To create a hair mask, you may need a full avocado depending on your hair length. Create a creamy concoction and apply to your hair, leave it on for 20 – 30 minutes. Rinse well, and voila!

2) Dry Skin Avocado Face Mask

Ingredients:

  • ½ an Avocado
  • 1 Tablespoon Honey
  • 1 Tablespoon of Yogurt

This recipe is great for combating dry skin during those cold winter months! Take ½ an avocado and mash with a fork until creamy. Add in honey and yogurt. Apply to face and leave on for 15 – 20 minutes.

3) Oily Skin Avocado Face Mask

Ingredients:

  • ½ an Avocado
  • 1 Egg White
  • 1 Tablespoon of Lemon Juice

This recipe provides an easy way to reduce oil build up on the skin! Take ½ an avocado and mash with a fork until creamy. Add in 1 egg white and lemon juice. Apply to face and leave on for 15 – 20 minutes.
